Common Questions

The therapist requires at minimum a cleared space of around 6 feet by 10 feet or more to be able to manoeuvre around the massage table comfortably.
When booking with MASSAGE CLUB, the therapist/s will arrive to your location about 10-15 minutes early and greet you. While they are setting up, you will be asked questions about your health history, massage style you prefer, type of pressure, and body parts you would like them to focus on so they can tailor the session to your needs. When ready to undress, they will leave the room to allow you privacy while you get onto the table and under the sheet. We have a partial draping policy, so only the area being massaged will be uncovered and you must wear underwear. You are also free to wear anything else that makes you comfortable. Generally you start face down, your face in a cradle so you don’t have to strain your neck. The therapist will “cue” you that the massage is about to begin, and the first touch should be gentle, not a surprise. Their hands should be warm. They use massage oils (scented or non-scented) so that their hands glide smoothly over your bare skin. You can enhance the experience by lighting candles in the room and playing soft relaxing music. If you book a 'chair massage' you remain fully clothed and receive the massage in an upright seated position. MASSAGE CLUB offers 12 different styles of massage, and the best way to figure out what a massage feels like, and what style you like, is to try different therapists and go back to the ones you like. That way you enjoy the long-term health benefits of massage.
The massage should feel good no matter the kind of massage you receive or who the massage therapist is. If you experience any pain or discomfort during the session, there may be more pressure being applied than what your body can handle, so feel free to ask the therapist to use less pressure. Don’t be shy to ask, as they are there to tailor the massage to your needs and may not know the preferred pressure unless you tell them. Listen to your body.
How often you should get a massage depends on your needs and your stress levels. Massage has significant health benefits that are best experienced when you get massage regularly. Typically, once every two weeks is ideal for keeping your muscle tissue pliable and in good shape. If you are in chronic pain or have a special issue to address, you might need to book weekly (or even twice a week) until you feel better. Once you’re feeling good, once a month is probably the minimum for maintaining the health of your tissue. If you start stretching the massages too far out, then your muscles can revert to their old patterns and you’ll have to start all over again to restore their suppleness and pliancy.
Here are some tips adapted from the American Massage Therapy Association to help you enjoy your massage. 1) Don’t eat just before the massage session. 2) Be ready on time. If your therapist arrives and you are in a rushed state, it will take longer to relax. 3) If you don’t want to remove all your clothing, wear what you will be comfortable in that will allow the therapist to work on the areas of your body that need it. 4) Good communication is very important. Before the session, give accurate health information and let the massage therapist know what you want from the massage. During the massage session, speak up if you have any feedback on the amount of pressure, speed of movement, room temperature, music volume, or lighting. 5) Some people like to talk during a massage session, while others remain silent. In general you should do whatever you feel like, and the massage therapist will follow your lead. 6) Breathing helps to facilitate relaxation. People often stop breathing when they feel anxious or a sensitive area is massaged. If you realize this is happening, remind yourself to breath. 7) Try not to tighten up during the massage. Let your massage therapist know if this is happening. They may need to adjust the massage technique being used. They may also be able to help you relax the affected area. 8) If you find your thoughts are racing during the massage, one way to be more “body-centered” and to quiet the mind is to follow the hands of the massage therapist and focus on how the touch feels. 9) If anything happens during the massage that you dislike or seems improper, you have the right to ask the massage therapist to stop, and if necessary end the session. 10) If you are dizzy or light headed after the massage, do not get off the table too fast. 11) Drink extra water after the massage. 12) Allow for some open, quiet time after your massage session if possible. Sometimes one needs a little time to integrate or absorb the results of the massage session or needs some “re-entry” time. Remember, massage has its greatest benefits over time. The therapeutic effects of massage are cumulative, so the more often a person gets a massage, the better he or she will feel and the more quickly one’s body will respond. If you are getting massage to address chronic muscular tension or recovery from a soft tissue injury, more than one session is usually needed, so be prepared to schedule several sessions.
Registered Massage Therapy is the manipulation of the body's soft tissues, including muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, and joints.
10 science-backed benefits of massage: 1) Relieves stress 2) Reduces tension headaches 3) Eases muscle tension and soreness 4) Improves sleep quality 5) Increases range of motion 6) Reduces back pain 7) Reduces anxiety and depression 8) Reduces sports injuries 9) Lowers blood pressure 10) Improves circulation and releases endorphins to enhance mood!
It's always better to get your massage after you have exercised. If you tend to get sleepy from a massage, you should have it as late in the day as possible so that you can just go to bed afterwards. If you don't want massage to take time out of your day, you can get one early in the morning.
Take a warm shower. First, the warm water will begin allowing your mind and body to relax making it more open to receiving massage. By cleaning your body prior to a massage, you can also mitigate some personal hygiene insecurities, if you have any, plus it is greatly appreciated by your massage therapist.
The temperature of the water can cause your muscles to tense up, which can negate the benefits of massage therapy. The heat can also increase the risk of dehydration. Inflammation may also occur if you are already feeling sore after the massage. Wait at least 1-2 hours before showering or taking a bath.
An Epsom salt bath is helpful any time you are suffering from stiff joints and achy muscles reacting to an unusual level of exercise, arthritic pain or a build up of stress related tension. It is also an excellent idea for the evening after a massage because it helps clear out released lactic acid.
The caffeine can cause the muscles to become tense and alcohol will dehydrate you, so it counteracts the relaxation and loosening of your muscles. Instead of drinking a cup of coffee or alcoholic beverage, substitute it for water. It's absolutely key that you drink a lot of water after your massage.
Post-massage fare high in nutrients and minerals is ideal. Think more fresh fruits and vegetables, steamed vegetables (the more colors, the better), even lightly stir-fried vegetable medley with some brown rice, or a baked sweet potato is super. You could even do a little meat, like some grilled chicken on a salad.
This is completely normal and may be a result of the massage releasing tension and reducing both mental and physical stress. Essentially, massage relaxes both the mind and body which, for some people, can result in mental tiredness or physical body fatigue.
To experience the maximum benefits of any massage, you should rest for 24-48 hours after a massage to allow time for muscle recovery. You shouldn't workout within this timeframe, but you can partake in light exercises, such as walking, swimming, and gentle yoga.
No matter how much or how little you prefer to talk during your massage, it is completely up to you. Please don't ever feel obligated to talk unless being asked a question to help tailor the session to your needs, and don't be afraid to speak up either to help guide the massage expert if the pressure applied to any trouble areas is too firm and hurts, or not hard enough.
Yes, it is pretty normal to fall asleep during a massage. Massages are designed to relax the body and mind, so it is natural to drift off. Massage therapists understand that it is a sign of relaxation and are comfortable with it.
An hour-long massage can burn more calories than you might think -- 230 calories -- the same as an hour of light weight training.
Get comfortable. Your therapist will step out for a moment, allowing you to disrobe (to your comfort level, underwear required) and lay onto a table underneath the top sheet and blanket. During your massage, your therapist will only uncover the areas of your body they're working on.
Protocol is regulated by the College of Massage Therapists to ensure privacy for clients. A table linen and top blanket will be covering you at all times, from your neck to your feet. Only the areas that you have consented to will be treated, and these areas will be uncovered and tightly draped one at a time.
Though you'll be asked to turn over during the massage, therapists do some nifty sheet work to keep everything under wraps as you do so. If the areas on your body do not require you to roll over per the intake discussion prior to session start, then you can maintain the same position throughout. All massages are tailored to your needs.
As technology advances and manufacturers discover better materials, the working weight capacity of massage tables increases from 250 pounds to 350 pounds at the very least presently. Working weight is the force that a massage table can safely use to practice treatments without fear of breaking.
Ask your massage therapist to go on a date or come back to your house etc. We strive to retain a professional relationship with our clients. That means that we prefer to see you in a professional setting alone. We will deny the invitation, especially if your request is too suggestive. Excessive noises. Noises happen. Moaning when something feels good happens. Please don’t stare at us should you do it. Please bear in mind that if that’s the only thing you do the whole time, we might think that you’re trying to get more out of the massage than what you’re paying for. Comment on looks/attractiveness. Because of the years of misrepresentation in our industry, we tend to be slightly more sensitive to certain compliments. While we are professional in every massage, whenever someone comments on how we look, we can’t help but wonder if you are trying to shift the professional relationship. Poke your head out of the room to let us know you’re ready. We’re glad that you get ready for your massage so quickly. The problem is that we have to also be ready for the massage. That might include grabbing water, going to the bathroom ourselves, or just making sure that you don’t feel like you have to rush to get on the table, so please be patient and wait for your massage therapist to return to the room to start your session. Start undressing while we are still in the room. Again, to maintain a professional relationship, we need to leave the room before you start disrobing. To make sure each client is always comfortable, we only expose what we work on as we work on it. Disrobing before we leave the room is exposing areas we are not currently working on, and it is distracting when we are trying to listen to what you need for that session. Touch us. We touch you. We don’t want you to touch us. That’s when it gets weird and uncomfortable. And again, we might think that you are trying to shift the professional relationship. Be late and then expect us to give you your full time. That includes showing up on time but taking a phone call for 15 minutes or talking to us about everything under the sun, preventing us from starting on time. We want to start you as close to on time as we can. If we end up starting late because the Massage Therapist is starting late, then you should expect your full time, but not if you are late. Disrespect our company policies and rules/disrespect our boundaries. We enjoy chatting with our clients and getting to know you. We really do. And there are some things we just don’t feel comfortable discussing with our clients, that being covid, religion, politics or other types of conversation that often breeds contention. It’s not that we aren’t strong individuals with opinions and such, it’s that the relationship we are establishing with you is a professional one. We want to sustain it by omitting conversations that detract from our goals–getting you to feel better.
Typically 20% is a standard protocol, but you can offer more or less based on the level of service received. While tipping is customary in this hands-on industry with the extra time required for travel to mobile appointments, set-up, client intake and to ensure the best in care and a relaxing experience all around, offering a tip is by no means mandatory. We leave this up to the client and it's based on your personal experience and at your sole discretion. If the service exceeds your expectations, the therapist will surely appreciate the compliment for their time and experience. Tipping can be done day of, after session completes, and would be a cash payment direct to the massage expert/s who attend.
If you have never had a massage from a male or female, certainly give both a try! You might be surprised to find you typically like the opposite gender better, but again, it's more than likely just your personal preference because realistically, a good massage therapist is just that, no more & no less. We offer choice of massage therapist gender however when scheduling for your optimal comfort.
A Swedish massage is perhaps the most well-known type of massage, ideal for a first-time experience. The Swedish massage technique involves using long strokes, kneading, and gliding with light to firm pressure to ensure total body relaxation.
The short answer would be as often as you like really. The long answer depends on many factors to include the type of massage you are having, your pain and physical needs and indeed your stress and emotional needs. A massage every week or every two weeks would be ideal but not realistic for every person.
